As House of Lords considers drink-driving bill 35 medical and health bodies call for lower drink-drive limit

As the House of Lords begins detailed consideration of the bill to lower the drink-drive limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, experts from thirty-five medical and health organisations have given their support. In an open letter to The Guardian they cite polls showing high public support for a lower limit and urge Peers to support the bill.
Among the signatories are the presidents of the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Surgeons and Royal Society of Public Health, the Chair of the Alcohol Health Alliance; Chief Executive of Alcohol Concern and the Director of the Institute of Alcohol Studies.
The Road Traffic Act 1988 (alcohol Limits) (Amendment) Bill has now begun its committee stage in the House of Lords which will debate the bill line-by-line and clause-by-clause.
