PCC backs RAC in calling for lower drink-drive limit

Thursday, August 18, 2016

Northumbria's Police & Crime Commissioner, Vera Baird, is backing the RAC in calling for the Government to reduce the drink-drive limit in England and Wales to the same level as Scotland.

Following publication of statistics showing that drink-drive related road fatalities have not changed considerably since 2010, Ms Baird argued that not enough is being done by government.

Ms Baird said: “I have worked closely with my North East PCC colleagues to urge the Government to reduce the alcohol limit. I am determined, as ever, that we do all that we can to make our roads safer. The Government must now show that reducing alcohol-related road deaths is a priority. They continue to say it is, but they now need to deliver on this priority.”
