Quick Reference Guide
AlcoSense 12 Panel Rapid Drug Test (Oral Fluid)
Step 1
Check the expiry date of the test on the packaging. Do not use an expired test.
Bring the pouch and test to room temperature (15-30 degrees centigrade).
Remove the cap to expose absorbant wick. For hygiene, do not touch the wick or the surface entering the mouth.
Step 2
Insert the wick end into the mouth.
Actively swab around the gums and cheeks on both sides of the mouth 10-15 times to assist saturation.
Step 3
Put the absorbent wick under the tongue (see above) to collect the fluid.
Step 4
After around 1 minute, the saliva flow will start to appear in the test windows, resulting in a slight colour change in the bottom of the window (see above).
Remove the test from the mouth and place it on a flat surface. Start timer and go to the next step.
Step 5
Check validity
IMPORTANT
- BEFORE assessing test results, ensure that all of the C-Lines are present, see diagram above. If one or more are not present after 10 minutes the test is invalid and must be repeated with a new test.
- Results will be complete after 10 minutes. If all lines are clearly visible after 3 minutes the result can be taken. If any lines are not visible wait the 10 minutes.
- A line may show in varying strength from faint to dark. A faint line is also acceptable.

Step 6
Understanding Results
- BEFORE assessing test results, ensure that all of the C-Lines are present. See step 5.
- Results will be complete after 10 minutes. If all lines are clearly visible at 3 minutes, then the result can be taken, otherwise wait the full 10 min.
- The presence of a line for a substance indicates a NEGATIVE result.
- If no line is present in the substance location, this indicates a non-negative (potential positive) result for that substance.
- A line may show in varying strength from faint to dark. A faint line also indicates a NEGATIVE result.
- There are 4 C-Line areas and 12 substance test areas on the test. When reading the result, the table on the device above the windows indicates the area on the test relating to that substance, below each C-Line in each column. See Fig. 1 below, the area circled in green below is the area indicating AMP and red is the area indicating MET for example.
- Please refer to the substance key at the top of this page.
Illustrations and Examples
The position of the substance on the table relates to the location of the substance indicator in the window below the C-Line.
All lines present at varying degrees of intensity. The section in the green area will never have any lines present as no substances are detected there.
All lines present except for the line signifying KET (ketamine).
THIS IS A SCREENING TEST. A NON-NEGATIVE (POTENTIAL POSITIVE) RESULT MUST BE VERIFIED USING A LABORATORY TEST (AVAILABLE SEPERATELY) BEFORE DISCIPLINARY ACTION MAY BE TAKEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY
