Easy to Understand Results

AlcoSense™ Special Edition 2 (SE2) shows your level of intoxication in ‰BAC (per mille blood alcohol content) in increments of 0.01 ‰BAC, along with easy to understand alerts if you are close to or over your set drink drive limit, showing a don't drive symbol and changng red. Sleek Pocket-Sized Design

The AlcoSense™ Special Edition 2 (SE2) comes from the same design team that developed the AlcoSense Excel, Pro and Ultra, winners of the 2018 German Design Award and the 2016 Red Dot Product Design Award. Pocket sized, it can discretely be kept anywhere. AlcoSense™ SE 2 measures only 110mm (height) x 45mm (width) x 21mm (depth). It is powered by 3 x AAA batteries meaning that you can use it anywhere at any time.

Easy Maintenance and Recalibration Alerts

The AlcoSense™ Special Edition 2 (SE2) has an ASC feature, manually selected by the user, which is a deep clean of the sensor and should be undertaken periodically to remove contaminents like residue and oxidisation from the sensor.

The Special Edition 2 (SE2) now also features a calibration reminder after 12 months or 300 tests so you can easily remember to have your breathalyser recalibrated and ensure ongoing accuracy.

Use it Again & Again

Using the latest semi-conductor sensor technology and innovations AlcoSense™ Special Edition 2 (SE2) can be used up to 300 times between calibrations meaning you will never be caught short. Please note, the Special Edition 2 (SE2) does not actively clear residual alcohol from the sensor after each test meaning if you test twice in quick succession, residual alcohol from the previous test may affect the result of the following test. Please wait 5 minutes between tests. If you wish to test more frequently than this please consider one of our models higher up the range.

To check I was okay to ride my motorbike the morning after a few glasses of wine the night before I bought a Alcosense Special Edition 2. I was okay to ride, which was great, but what prompted me to write this 5* review was because not only is this breathalyser a neat little package and very simple to use, the user manual is one of the best I have come across for any product. We have purchased this to travel to USA and Canada to drive across and want to check we're 'good to go' along the way. I've checked their laws regarding limits and from what I can gather, our law levels are the same as theirs, so I was happy that this handy machine will do the job. You'll get six tubes in the packet and will need to purchase more, but they're not too expensive and whatever, its cheaper than risking your license or worse...!

Great design and colour-coded results. However this needs to be packed with blow tubes; I didn't receive any! The unit can be damaged if blow tubes are not used. Also the power button is annoyingly easy to activate accidentally. Please send me some blow tubes!

This is a great little device that will take away that morning after guesswork. Compact enough to take with you on a night out in case you don't make it back to your own home, or if you are going away for a few days. I would recommend setting it up and trying it out beforehand rather than waiting until you need it as there are some important do's and don't's to follow

I saw this in LIDL and had been thinking of getting one to use in my motorhome. I wanted to be sure all was OK before driving off in the morning! All I know so far is it correctly tells me I have not had anything to drink for a while. I need some form of carry case to keep both the device and tubes safely together and clean.

With Christmas coming thought it was time to ensure I protect my licence, normally I get a taxi if I have had more than a couple of drinks, but there are occasions after one or two drinks you are never sure or need to drive the following morning. I am slightly biased as I picked mine up for £15 from LIDL, whereas I know the list price for this device can be higher.

I have been a professional user of various handheld breathalyser devices for 28 years, plus am a qualified Intoxilyser traner and user. So, knowing what I am talking about, I have a lot of good things to say about this piece of kit.

Price - very good. How much do you value your license and your life? One of these could save both.

Ease of use - very good; one on/off button, a clear display, and easy to follow instructions. Turn it on, blow through the tube, wait for the beep, read your results. Very uncluttered.

Accuracy - the makers have gone a long way in the instructions to make sure you don't get a false reading, and that if in doubt, you should err on the side of caution. A lot of what they put in the manual (only 19 A6 pages, it takes five minutes to read) is based on good roadside breathalyser practise as taught to the police, etc, to make sure your reading is accurate.

Quality of life features - you can set this up for use in all of Europe all the way to Russia, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand; basically you tell the machine what the drink/drive limit is for the region you are driving in, then it will give you pass/fail/warn based on the law of the land where you are.

It runs on three AAA batteries, the tubes are disposable but cost 25p each, and can be re-used if you wish. It's smaller than most mobile phones so can sit in the glove box with no issues.

The manual is 19 little pages but they've made it easy to read, and easy to use. Some EU countries insist you carry one of these by law, so if you are ever in doubt, you should self-test and then if caught driving over the limit, you have no excuses.

Affordable, useable, glad I bought one.

I bought the analyser from Lidl for a bargain price of £14.99. The product is robustly made, of very good quality and detailed finish. It is easy to use and fit for purpose. The only draw back is that the manufacture recommends to use the blow tubes only once. Those cost £4.99 per 20 tubes i.e. 25 pence per tube. Although this a small for a test, 25 pence for the third of a straw is expensive. On the other hand, for me at least the annual cost of consumables will be minor, as I doubt that I will carry more than 20 tests per year. Altogether this is brilliant product and highly recommended.

Everything about this item is great from its simple, straightforward instructions to the accuracy and quality of the product. This does exactly as stated on the box. I bought my wife an Alcosense for her car, and she has found it to be very informative in the morning when she is at greatest risk of accidentally driving while over the limit.
She would recommend it to all as a must for the Party goers morning car, and the morning car of anyone who likes a tipple in the late evening, but relies on driving for part or all of their livelihood.
She would not have the car without it now.
I have used it on occasion to be sure to be sure.

Bought the SE2 in Lidl as a a last resort. General rule of thumb I rarely need to use it and that is best way to be but if I am ever in juristiction where it is required or I am in doubt, it is there. Best if I never need to use it.

I would draw your attention to the higher margin or error, you have to go to higher price point for more accurate devices but all in all it is simple to use and manual is very clear.

I already had an Alcosense excel, which I bought from Halfords to use to check how various drinking patterns and amounts affected my blood alcohol levels. I bought the SE2 model, discounted in Lidl just before Christmas, to keep in my car. In fact the SE2 readings are very close to those is get from the excel, so I am very pleased with it. The instructions are very clear and there is a short but very informative description about how alcohol consumption patterns affect blood alcohol levels over time. Bought this from Lidl's a week ago, and it was very simple to setup, and very easy to use. I had worked out the exact number of units I had consumed after a drinking session, and the time I had started drinking, then based my expected time of being in the clear again (based on 1 hour per unit), and when I took a breath test the next morning after the worked out time to be clear, the reading came back as 'LO'. So I'm happy that it appears to be accurate. Overall I highly recommend this product.

I was surprised how accurate the Special edition 2 was. Purley in the interest of science I ordered a second pint with my fish and chips to enable be to test this new gadget. Over the last 50 years or so I have been invited by the police to test out their breathalysers on a hand full of occasions. (I no longer speed so have not been stopped for a while now- would recommend the advanced driving test). On a couple of the occasions, I had exceeded my limit of 2 pints by an additional 0.5pint. On all occasions I passed the police breath test. The first one was a Dräger tube but now they seem to be electronic with just had 3 lights. My tests have all shown the green light. (except maybe in Spain but I hadn’t a clue what he was saying as he did not speak English. I think they may have a lower limit but he let me on my way).
The test after 2 pints was 0.7 confirming I was safe to drive home. I am not sure if an additional 0.5 pint would have resulted in a 0.8 reading. Maybe a test for when I can get the wife to drive.
Forty minutes later the reading had dropped to 0.47. A great produce and at an amazing price from Lidl.
I thought this would product would produce an accurate result as it is the first one, I have brought that offers a calibration service. Great value accurate and 5 stars.

I bought this recently to take the guess work out blood alcohol limit.
Simple to use with clear instructions. Getting the correct breath takes a little practice and the online product video helped to get this right. I am impressed with the ability to set the unit up for a wide range of country limits, as I drive across Europe and in Canada. The only negative point and why this doesn’t get 5 stars is in the small print. “The AlcoSense 2 cannot be used to comply with French law.” A small but important point.

I have looked around at other testers but settled for the SE2 as I was reassured this would provide accuracy for such a critical issue where mistakes are not permitted (live and death outcomes). The positive reviews added further confidence to my choice. Easy set up and use and will be using frequently over the festive period.

I have just purchased the Alcosense Special Edition 2.
I am delighted with the product and the reassurance that I now have to check levels especially in the morning.

I found the instructions a bit confusing re the battery compartment. Instructions show different layout. Having to set the appropriate alcohol level by pressing a pen in to the hole above the battery compartment is a bit of a faff. Once set up it is easy to use and surprisingly accurate.
